HCDP Opens Permanent Office in Conway

Horry Democrats now have a permanent “home” in historic downtown Conway.  The Executive Committee voted at its Nov. 21 meeting to continue leasing the campaign office location at 909 Norman Alley in Conway.

This decision was made possible by generous anonymous gifts which will significantly defray monthly expenses, according to Bennie Swans, HCDP Chair.

HCDP is one of a handful of South Carolina county parties with a year-round headquarters.  The facilities will be used for regular officers and committee meetings as well as other events.  During the recent election season, the space was extensively used for phone banking and campaign meetings, serving as a base of operation for the statewide coordinated campaign and as a center where local candidates could organize.

Don Kohn, president of the Westside Democrats, notes that the office has several rooms able to support various activities simultaneously, a big advantage during busy election periods.

“Our office is Wi-Fi enabled complete with a wireless printer, and plenty of storage space for signs, tents and other items,” says Kohn. “Furthermore, its quaint location in close proximity to several restaurants and stores is great for those who want a meal, to shop or visit the nearby Conway Riverwalk, Horry County Library or Horry County Museum.”

Socially, the permanent office is another addition to offerings by several clubs and groups across Horry County for Democrats to meet for discussion, organizing and comradery. December has been a busy month, with meetings of the first Coffee Klatch and a “Blue Plate” potluck dinner. A Democratic Book Club is planned for the future.

“Come by and meet other energized Democrats willing to share ideas and ideals,” urges HCDP Chair Swans. “The office is a vital tool for organizing and a great place to learn about issues and campaigns.”

Regular business hours are currently being established. Interested visitors are encouraged to call (843) 488-4237 prior to dropping by the office to ensure that a volunteer is there to greet and assist them.

909 Norman Alley in downtown Conway is one block north of Main Street, between Third and Fourth Avenues.  For those familiar with the “old” office on Fourth Avenue, Norman Alley is just across the big parking lot close to the Ocean Fish Market.
