MYRTLE BEACH, June 13 – Bennie Swans, chairman of the Horry County Democratic Party, today issued a statement about the horrific shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Florida early yesterday morning when 50 people were killed and 53 shot and injured:
“We join with everyone in Horry County who are deeply saddened and horrified by the senseless death and destruction at the hands of a fanatic. We reach out in our thoughts and prayers to the friends and families of the victims, knowing there can be no explanation and no comfort for an event such as this, the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. We also stand with our friends and colleagues in the LGBT community, whose pain and suffering we share and deplore.”
“We live in troubled times, and we should all remember one thing,” Swans said. “If you see something, say something. In far too many of these kinds of events, there was a clue, a warning of some kind, but people ignored it. I know some people say they ‘don’t want to get involved.’ But sometimes we just don’t have that choice. If you see something, say something.”
