This annual gathering brings together Democrats from all walks of life to honor the contributions of those who have dedicated their lives to advancing the values of equality, justice, and opportunity in our community.

The event serves as a reminder of our shared history, highlighting the tireless efforts of local leaders, activists, and party members whose passion and perseverance have paved the way for positive change. It is an evening of reflection, recognition, and renewed commitment to building a brighter future for everyone.

More than a fundraiser or a social occasion, the SHORE Dinner represents the spirit of unity and the strength of our Democratic family. It is a tribute to those whose legacies continue to inspire us to stand up, speak out, and stay engaged in the fight for a more inclusive and equitable society.

The SHORE Dinner is more than just a meal-it is a tribute to the individuals and families who have shaped the Democratic legacy in Horry County. The SHORE name honors esteemed Democrats, including:

S for Helen P. Sasser (1935-2014), a lifelong Democrat and candidate for the South Carolina House of Representatives.

H for Rupert Hickman, a dedicated history teacher, and party loyalist.

0 for Barack Obama, whose historic presidency continues to inspire change.

R for the Robinson Family, Michelle Obama’s ancestors from Georgetown County, connected to many local Democrats.

E for Senator Dick Elliott (1935-20!4 ), who served Horry County for over 30 years as a Democratic State Senator.

Representative Ro Khanna

Representative Ro Khanna (CA)

Representative Ro Khanna serves California’s 17th Congressional District in Silicon Valley and is a leading progressive voice in Congress. Now in his fifth term, he is Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Ranking Member on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems. Khanna has championed American manufacturing, technology innovation, and climate action—authoring the Endless Frontier Act, which became the foundation for the CHIPS and Science Act signed by President Biden. He made history by bringing fossil fuel CEOs before Congress to testify on climate disinformation and continues to push for policies that improve the lives of working families. Born in Philadelphia to Indian immigrant parents, Khanna’s commitment to service was inspired by his grandfather’s work in Gandhi’s independence movement. He remains a tireless advocate for building a fairer, more innovative, and more inclusive America.

Representative Johnathan Jackson

Representative Johnathan Jackson (IL)

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson represents Illinois’ First Congressional District, carrying forward a proud legacy of activism and public service as the son of civil rights leaders Rev. Jesse Jackson and Jacqueline Jackson. Now serving in Congress, he has championed legislation advancing reparations, criminal justice reform, and educational equity, including support for H.R.40, the Justice for Incarcerated Moms Act, and the Black History Matters Act. He serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, where he has advanced bipartisan initiatives on food security, global human rights, and equitable economic development. A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, he is a proud member of both the Congressional Black Caucus and the Progressive Caucus. Rep. Jackson remains deeply committed to expanding opportunity, defending democracy, and uplifting underserved communities.
