Former Democratic Congressional candidate Michael B. Moore, who challenged Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) in the November election, and newly elected HCDP Chair Judy Davies, urged Democrats last night to step up their involvement in public affairs and increase their financial support for both the state and county Democratic parties.
“I think we are living in perilous times,” Moore said. “We all have to be involved. It’s the only way we’re going to fight back.”
Moore encouraged Democrats to run for office, adding, “Any office.”
Both Moore and Davies emphasized the importance of consistent, monthly contributions to HCDP and Democratic candidates. They stressed how predictable, recurring donations provide reliable resources for candidates as they plan and conduct their campaigns, and for the party as it works to advance Democratic values and support local efforts.
Davies highlighted the urgency of recruiting effective candidates.
“We need an infusion of new people,” she said. “And we need an infusion of money to continue the party’s efforts.”
She also called on local Democrats to aggressively oppose harmful state Republican initiatives, such as the proposed super strict abortion legislation currently under consideration in the state legislature.
“We need to go to Columbia and protest on the steps of the capitol,” Davies said. “We need to be heard.”
Davies criticized the state Democratic Party for largely ignoring Horry County during election campaigns.
“Our own party ignores us completely because they think we’re just too red,” she said.
But Davies encouraged attendees not to be discouraged.
“We need to get involved with every aspect of everything,” she urged. “Open your pocketbooks and dig deep every month. That’s what Republicans do.”
