Ryan Thompson for State House of Representatives, District 106 Kicks off Campaign

Ryan Thompson, Democratic candidate for State House of Representatives, District 106, kicked off his election campaign by celebrating his birthday, July 6, 2020, at the South Strand Recreation Center, Myrtle Beach.

Ryan was born and raised in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and has called Horry County his home for his entire life. He graduated from St. James High School in 2018 and recently graduated from the College of Charleston Honors College with a degree in Political Science. He is now home to formally start his campaign for State House.

He is the youngest of three from his parents Lori and Dave and follows in his sisters, Kristen and Megan, footsteps of being first-generation college students. He now resides with his mother and dog Bella in Murrells Inlet.

After his father’s passing in 2011, Ryan has worked various jobs to help support his mother and himself. Ryan has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He started out making pet toys and selling them online and then worked at the local Chick-fil-A during high school which later provided scholarships for his college.

Ryan has been involved with local politics since he was 17 and has worked on numerous campaigns across the state allowing him to find his passion of meeting voters and hearing their needs. He has a passion for people and for his hometown and wants to make his community a better place.

In high school, he was involved in all areas from theater,  swim team, student government, and future business leaders of America. During his time in college, Ryan was involved in numerous campus leadership positions and recently finished his term as Student Body President.

Ryan served as a student representative on the Council for Higher Education and is passionate about ensuring all South Carolinians have access to quality education. He will be an unyielding advocate for educators in the state and is currently pursuing teaching opportunities in the community.
