South Carolina Democrats Unite at 11th Annual SHORE Dinner in Myrtle Beach

Horry County Democrats attended HCDP’s 11th annual SHORE Dinner Sunday, Oct. 22, in Myrtle Beach, helping to raise funds to support the party’s efforts to elect great candidates and oppose MAGA Republican efforts to restrict our most basic freedoms.

South Carolina Democratic Chair Cristale Spain welcomed the crowd and expressed appreciation for their financial support.

“We have got to do the work to do the work of helping Democrats on Main Street,” she said.

Keynote speaker Karen Gray Houston, author of the book “Daughter of the Boycott, Carrying on a Montgomery Family’s Civil Rights Legacy,” discussed her father’s leadership of the Montgomery Bus Boycott that followed the police shooting of Hillard Brooks, a Black man, during an encounter involving a ride on a Montgomery, Alabama bus.

Ms. Gray Houston is an award-winning broadcast journalist, and her family’s civil rights story was perfect for our theme, “Equality and Justice for All” for this very important fundraiser.

HCDP Chair Alester Linton Pryor and SHORE Dinner Chair Cedric Blain Spain thanked all those who attended and encouraged all Democrats to support HCDP’s efforts to elect Democrats and defend against MAGA Republican’s constant attacks on equality and freedom as they seek to restrict individual rights, ban books, restrict abortions and LGBTQ+ rights, and deny climate change.

“We must work harder than ever to engage, educate, energize to empower our grassroots voters and elect candidates who will fight back,” said Pryor.
