Clinton Campaign Names S.C. Director

COLUMBIA, Aug. 5 Hillary Clinton’s campaign has a new Palmetto State director, charged with making the Democrat competitive in red-state South Carolina, which last voted Democratic in a presidential race in 1976.

Alycia Albergottie, named S.C. director of Hillary for America, is “passionate about being a change agent in her community,” the S.C. Democratic Party said in a press release.

Alycia AlbergottieAlbergottie succeeds Clay Middleton, who the Clinton campaign recently moved to Florida, a battleground state. She comes to the Clinton campaign with a long resume in S.C. campaigns.

A Columbia native and Allen University graduate, Albergottie volunteered with Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, starting in 2011. She later worked as regional field director for Elizabeth Colbert Busch’s unsuccessful 2013 campaign for the 1st District seat in Congress, worked on Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin’s 2013 re-election campaign and volunteered for Vincent Sheheen’s unsuccessful run for governor in 2014.

In between, Albergottie was a national committeewoman for the Young Democrats and an executive committeewoman for the Richland County Democratic Party. She previously worked as the program coordinator for the S.C. Association of Community Action Partnerships, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping low-income people achieve economic stability.

“Alycia’s hiring by Hillary Clinton’s campaign is great news,” said S.C. Democratic chairman Jaime Harrison. “It reaffirms the campaign’s commitment to a 50-state strategy to strengthen our party in every corner of the country.”
