The Horry County Democratic Party donated a check for $1,000 July 8 to the Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center in Little River, representing 10 percent of profits from the 2nd Annual Senator Dick Elliott Memorial Golf Outing held June 29, 2019 at the Legends Golf Resort Parkland Course in Myrtle Beach.
The check was presented at the HCDP Executive Committee meeting in Conway by golf outing chair Barbara Eisenhardt to Veterans Welcome Home director, Ron Wilson.
For those not familiar with this very important resource for American veterans, they provide much needed assistance for honorably discharged veterans. Although they are located in the Myrtle Beach area, veterans from other nearby counties, as well as southern North Carolina, also come to the center for help.
The goal of Veterans Welcome Home is to provide assistance with job placement, filing VA claims and to help veterans who find themselves in financial distress. The center also provides shelter for homeless veterans.
The center is non-profit and relies on donations from the community. It is staffed by volunteers with a board of directors overseeing operations. You can learn more about the Center here.
After accepting, Ron discussed the importance of this center in the Myrtle Beach area and said that they are helping so many veterans from near and far that they needed to upgrade their parking facilities. As of July 8, they were $1000 short of the needed funds to complete the improvements. The HCDP donation will now help them complete this project. Ron was extremely appreciative that the center was chosen as this year’s recipient.
If you know of any veterans who are looking for help, please recommend they contact the Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center at 843-427-4568 or send a message through their website http://veteranswelcomehomeandresourcecenter.org/send-us-a-message/.
