HCDP Blasts SC’s ‘Three GOP Amigos’ for Blind Defense of Trump

CONWAY, SC – Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, and Rep. Tom Rice – South Carolina’s “Three GOP Amigos” — are engaging in a blind defense of President Trump, despite overwhelming evidence that Trump sought an investigation of a political rival by a foreign government in return for military and financial assistance.

“Testimony by dedicated career state department officials clearly and unequivocally confirmed that President Trump, through his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, attempted to trade nearly $400 million in appropriated funds and a White House meeting with Trump for an investigation by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter,” said Don Kohn, chairman of the Horry County Democratic Party (HCDP).

“For Graham, Scott and Rice to blindly defend Trump, despite this outrageous abuse of power bordering on attempted bribery of a foreign official for political gain, is disgraceful,” declared Kohn.

Both Rice and Graham face reelection in 2020 and apparently are convinced that their political fortunes depend on unequivocally backing Trump, Kohn observed. Scott will face re-election in 2022.

In his latest taxpayer-funded newsletter, Rice stated:

“The Democrats’ impeachment inquiry continued this week. With each witness and hearing, the fundamental facts remain the same: there was no quid pro quo, bribery, pressure, or impeachable offense.”

“Apparently Congressman Rice was wearing earplugs during the hours of testimony when witness after witness, including the Ambassador to the European Union who contributed $1 million to Trump’s inauguration, clearly stated that Trump, through Giuliani, was trying to make such a deal,” Kohn suggested.

Meanwhile, Graham, whom Kohn said has “morphed from Trump’s biggest critic just two years ago to become his BFF today,” now plans to conduct a Senate investigation into the Bidens, even as Trump will face a trial by the Senate, if the House of Representatives approves articles of impeachment.

“As CNN reported, “… the more damning the suggestions of an abuse of power become, the deeper it forces Trump’s defenders into his wild brew of conspiracy theories, disinformation and distortion,” observed Kohn.

“Horry County voters need to pay close attention to these developments and to the actions of South Carolina’s own “Three GOP Amigos” – Graham, Scott and Rice.” said Kohn. “This will be the most consequential election of our lifetime and the future of our nation is clearly at stake. It’s time to take a stand for democracy.”
