At our county party convention on March 22, 2016, HCDP chose Delegates and Alternates for a two-year term to represent Horry at the annual South Carolina Democratic Party conventions in 2016 and 2017. As one of the largest counties in South Carolina, and based on the number of registered voters, HCDP was authorized to select 94 Delegates – 47 men and 47 women – and an equal number of men and women as Alternates. County conventions are held every two years in an even-numbered year; the next HCDP convention will take place in 2018.
With less than a month to go before the 2017 SCDP Convention on April 29, HCDP is busy contacting its 2016 Delegates to confirm who plans to attend. Alternates will be informed of possible openings. Please note, there are often slots available for male Delegates, but only occasionally for female Delegates.
This is how it will work: On the morning of the SCDP Convention, HCDP officials will check in Delegates at the Horry County registration table and issue credentials. If a Delegate slot is empty at 9:00 a.m., credentials may be given to an Alternate present at that time. Only credentialed Delegates may vote, so it’s important that Alternates visit the registration table during this process.
Even if you are not already a Delegate or Alternate, please plan to attend the convention! This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people from across the state, and to get involved in shaping the future of the Democratic Party in South Carolina.
