A couple of weeks ago, while working at the Horry Democratic Party Office in Conway, SC, I received a call from Marcos Grainger, of Los Angeles, CA.
His two middle school children live here in Myrtle Beach, and his parents live in Murrells Inlet. His kids were so concerned with the killings in Orlando they wanted him to do something concrete to support the efforts of the high schoolers who survived the shooting, and who were having such an impact nationwide in finally making a change for gun control in our country.
Marcos became heavily involved in the March For Our Lives, taking place March 24th, at Market Common here in Myrtle Beach. Marcos called all the high schools in our area, with very little response. He tried to get a permit, and was turned down by local police…but, he was told that if the kids stayed on the sidewalks, they could march without any issues.
He hopefully has received a grant from the March For Our Lives organization (aren’t these kids something?) to pay for water, food, signs, and a megaphone. The organization is sending the package to his parents’ home in Murrells Inlet.
Our local March For Our Lives will take place Saturday, March 24th at 10am at Market Common. Everyone will meet at Grand 14 Theater and march our way around the lake and finish at Valor Memorial Garden (see map). That’s where the speeches will be held.
Horry County Democrats are meeting that day for our 2018 Convention and Reorganization, or else we would be standing with students, marching side by side, in support of these young activists in their efforts to make viable gun control a reality!
If you are not going to the Convention, please consider joining these awesome representatives of the next generation of voters!
