Rupert Hickman, Longtime Democratic Activist, Dies at 78

Longtime Horry County Democratic Party activist Rupert Hickman of Loris passed away in the early morning hours of October 4 after a brief illness. Hickman was married to Doris J. Potter-Hickman, a former chair of the county party.

“Rupert served the party faithfully in many different capacities until his death,” said Bennie Swans, HCDP Chair. “We extend our deepest sympathy to Doris and ask you to please keep Doris, her children and the Hickman family in your thoughts and prayers.”

In an email to HCDP officers, Jaime Harrison, South Carolina Democratic Party chair, wrote: “This is such sad news! Rupert was such a great and kind soul. Please share our heartfelt condolences and prayers with Doris, their children and the entire Horry County Democratic Family.”

The family will hold visitation on Thursday, October 6, 4:00-6:00 PM, at the Hardwick Funeral Home, 4831 Main Street, Loris, SC 29569. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2:00 PM, Kingston Lake Education and Business Center, 3410 Church Street, Loris, SC 29569.
