The Importance of Voting in the South Carolina Democratic Primary

South Carolina has open primaries, which means that anyone can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary. However, Democratic voters need to vote for Democratic candidates in both the primary and mid-term elections. Standing solidly behind Democratic candidates shows the GOP that Democrats are ready for the fight to advocate for Democracy.

Democratic voters should remember that primaries and Mid-term elections are about electing candidates that will work for their communities at the Federal, State and County levels. U.S. Congressional seats, the Governorship, Statehouse seats, and other open state and county offices are on the ballot.

Primaries and mid-term elections tend to have lower voter turnout than Presidential elections, which indicates that voters downplay the importance of electing U.S. Congressional seats, and other open statewide and county offices. Not voting Democratic is a critical mistake. The outcome of these primaries and mid-term elections directly impacts you.

Horry County Democratic Party argues that primaries and mid-term elections are as important as any Presidential election, if not more so. Primaries are the only opportunity for voters to choose from multiple options and vote for their preferred candidate from their own party.

The GOP is doing everything possible to motivate their voters with outrageous claims about the Democratic agenda. The GOP’s goal is to keep their control at the state level and try to gain the majority in the U.S. Congress so they can continue their assault on democracy.

We must not let this happen!

Vote in the June 14, 2022 Democratic Primary Election

HCDP needs Democratic voters to get out and vote in the Democratic Primary on June 14.

The Gubernatorial and US Senate primary races are the most crucial.

Democrats have five candidates for Governor:

  • Carlton Boyd
  • Joe Cunningham
  • Mia McLeod
  • Calvin McMillan
  • William H. Williams

There are three Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate:

  • Catherine Fleming Bruce
  • Angela Geter
  • SC State Representative Krystle Mathews

Democrats need to choose the candidate who can best represent the majority of voters in South Carolina. Do not let the rest of the South Carolina counties decide for you who will be on the November ballot.

Horry County Democrats need to vote in all elections to show the GOP here that we are a here to challenge them.

Democrats and Republicans Need to Choose Their Own Candidates

Democratic candidates should have Democratic voters’ support at the polls in every election. High voter turnout may even empower other Horry County Democrats to run for office at the local, state or federal level. We will have even more GOP challengers in the future, so we need more Democratic candidates.

There is strength in numbers. It makes no difference who the GOP opponent is. If every Democrat votes in the Democratic primary, we will have an even higher turnout than in 2018 or 2020 in November and we will defeat the GOP candidates in every office.

Now is not the moment to waver from your support for all Democratic candidates!

Vote YOUR Democratic choices on June 14th.
